With your partner, this task requires you to heat (cook) an egg. Notice the changes of the egg before and after.
You might want to crack open an uncooked egg prior to commencement.
These questions below are to be considered while doing the experiment.
Questions to be answered in your Science and Technology workbooks?
Safety Considerations:
· Be very careful when cooking the egg, have an adult with you for assistance. As the water can boil and become extremely hot.
· Do not carry heavy and or a hot pot, ask help form an adult.
Objective:
To heat an egg and see the irreversible change.
Equipment:
· 1 uncooked egg
· Water
· Cooking stove
· 1 pot (small)
· 1 spoon strainer
· Timer
Method:
1. Using a small pot, fill up the pot half way with cold water.
2. Place the pot onto a stove and turn the heat up.
3. Place the egg inside the pot. Carefully watch the egg and water boil, if the heat is up too high you can reduce it.
4. Using the timer, after 4-5 minutes turn off the heat from the stove.
5. Using the spoon strainer take the boiled egg out. It is important that you ask an adult for help to retrieve the egg out of the hot pot.
6. Once the egg has cooled down, peel the egg shell off. Notice how the egg has turned into a solid.

Questions to be answered in your Science and Technology workbooks?
- What did the egg look like before heat was applied to it?
- What happened to the egg?
- What is an irreversible change? How do you know that this is an irreversible change?
- What would have happened if we had fried the egg instead?
